Recently SOLD Steinway A -188 small drawing room grand 1922

This lovely Steinway model A grand is full of interest. Not only is it a lovely piano but we have it on good authority from the previous owner that this piano was used by Sergei Rachmaninoff as a practice piano when staying in London, this information being passed down from the first owner. Indeed with kind assistance from Allen Wright at Steinway on checking the Steinway & Sons company records it would seem that the instrument was kept and loaned out on many occasions. The eventual sale took place in August 1943, just a few months after the death of Rachmaninoff and we are in receipt of a copy of the original bill of sale showing the princely sum of £290, quite a lot of money at that time. This piano has a glorious tone quality and we can but wonder at the wonderful music that must have flowed from it in those years between the two world wars. This instrument has been serviced through and is now available with a magical vintage warmth and patina.
